Nice to meet you all! Please call me Jonathan. I have two collections to keep me busy for a few years. I'm a software engineer with an eye for details, but I'm new to stamps—over 100 hours into the hobby and loving it.
I auctioned off some mint US plate blocks on eBay a few years back and it felt great. The research that facilitated those sales was time well spent. Now I'm back to dig deeper. I look forward to sharing nice 1200dpi pics as I work my way through the stamps.
My consolidated collection consists of four main categories; from largest to smallest: 1) China; 2) US; 3) misc global; and 4) misc US postal history. The bulk of my stamps are from 1900–1950.
My grandfather was a collector and amateur stamp seller working out of his father's import shop in lower Manhattan. As a small side project, he assembled and sold cards with hinged Chinese stamps from the storefront. I will carry on the tradition: collect some, sell some, and most importantly have fun!
Soon I will post the obligatory "is this a 596?" question and we'll be off to the races…
