Greetings. I have two stamps which I bought new way back in 1976 and never used (they're still attached to one another); they commemorate that year's Apollo-Soyuz "handshake in space" joint mission. Anyone know how much they'd be worth? Thanks.

If you use them on an envelope they are worth exactly what it says on the stamp - 20 cents!
Someone has a set for sale on Ebay and the bid is at $2.27. Maybe this gives you some idea?

Welcome ACJ.

Alas one would hope 40 year old stamps would be worth something. Unfortunately the Scott's Catalog lists the attached pair Mint (new) at 45 cents and the attached pair used at 40 cents. Probably because the USPS printed 161,863,200 copies of the stamps, means there are a LOT of them in existence.

The fact that the Scott's used price is so close to the Mint price suggest they are almost more valuable used - if the cancel date is appropriate - than they are new.

If you tried to sell them, you might get the face value (20 cents) of the pair ... even after 40 years.

While it's a long shot ... I even hesitate to mention it ... the catalog value of a pair could be $30. Provided the stamps are not tagged. Highly unlikely and probably impossible to know without a UV lamp to check for the tagging. Such errors are known as "tagging omitted" issues. This was fairly common in the 60s & 70s before the advent of prephosphored paper. I think the last tagging omitted error occurred in 1995.

Thanks for the replies. And, by the way, the mission was in 1975, not '76, and '75 is when I bought them.

[lol] You might also try holding onto them for another 40 years. I'm sure by then many of the existing mint pairs will have been lost, destroyed or used for postage leaving yours one of the last remaining few. [/lol]
