Nice little lot. It wasn't cheap by any stretch, but a nice variety of material. Many of them are fairly inexpensive. Most of the cancels I already have, but the main reason for buying it was the last four pages, all 3-cent and 4-cent types with Proprietary cancels. Some of these I have not seen before, so that made it worthwhile.
One nice potential bonus when it comes to proprietary cancels: because they tend to be late dates with respect to the range of first issue usage, the possibility of silk papers is increased. Once I start breaking it down, that's something I will be checking.
Sellers pictures, so not the greatest detail in the world. The writeups are the seller's as well.
A few nice match & medicine provisional cancels, and any green cancel is nice to find. Nice to get the Andrew Dougherty printed on a proprietary. It does come on the playing cards as well.
Quote: I don't believe the G.W. cancel is printed, I think it's just a quality handstamp. It and the Quicksilver mining cancel are not particularly scarce.
Correct, not printed, but a nice strike. Both cancels aren't scarce, but they go for nice money.
Quote: Wow - was this an eBay purchase?
Yes. Seller offered this and a couple other lots at crazy "moon money" prices, and as expected got no bidders. I contacted him and negotiated a package deal that made the cost much more reasonable
