No different from lots of imperf and part perf revenues offered on eBay but are clearly fakes.

R83a is fairly tough. I have owned 3 legit examples since I started collecting, two of them on documents (VERY scarce).

The current example in my collection is shown below. H.L. Aldrich was a cotton mill owner.

Just found the listing you are referring to. What's even more laughable is that (1) the front of the stamp isn't even pictured, and (2)bids up to $36.75... for a trimmed R83c.

Dreamers and bidiots everywhere.

Just as a point of information, this paper is much too thick to be an imperf of this particular stamp. I'm pretty sure that the shade would be wrong as well, since it appears to have what looks like an 1872 cancel.

There is a difference though. An honest mistake vs deliberately bidding on something so blatantly phony.

That first one is a magical stamp. No perfs when viewed from the front but perforated when viewed from the back.

Note that the seller never says a vs. b vs. c. He leaves it to bidders to jump to their own erroneous conclusions. Technically the seller isn't doing anything wrong... just stupid bidders.

It is clearly written on the back of the stamp, it's still technically fraudulent. Of course these people put up thousands of revenues each year, and they are hardly the most knowledgeable people out there.
