In which Precancel catalog will I find listings for the Postage Dues/ Special Delivery type issue, I've checked the Town & Type and the Bureau catalogs but cannot find anything. So how do I know if the stamps I have are a T&T or a Bureau Precancel.

There were only 2 postage due stamps precancelled at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. They are the 1 and 2 cent of 1916 precancelled New Orleans LA. ALL other postage due [and special delivery] are local [non bureau]. The two New Orleans are listed in the PSS Bureau catalog. All the others are either listed in the PSS Town & Type catalog, or the Silent Precancels catalog, or not recognized as precancels. The T&T catalog does not list every denomination of stamp found with each precancel. Many types were used on PD's, many not. |

Hi Chasa, I've made a note of your explanation for future reference. I may be the secretary of the PSSGB but have only been collecting pre-cancels for 1½ years and still finding it difficult. It's a minefield, quite a large step up from collecting general issues.
Many thanks David Hughes |

David - they can be bewildering and overwhelming. Like me trying to get my arms around Machin head perfins! Luckily, both specialties can be started for very modest cash outlay. |

CHASA & ELK117. The bulk of items out there in the precancelled world is what led me to limit my precancel collecting habits. Just of for the record (no one but me cares...) I collect 2 US States, US perfinned Precancels (all of them), US & Canada precancelled postal stationery, GB precancelled postal stationery (not many out there, and they are a tad pricey), Canadian Precancels, and Worldwide Precancels when I find them (not searching them out, but trying for at least one from each country that does this sort of thing). One would think this would be enough, but in the overall collection, there are many, many more things I hoard. |

Since we apparently have some who collect precancelled perfins, can anyone identify this one for me -- or are the pins so far out of place it becomes hopeless? I even tried inverting the precancel in the event it could be upside down: Any ideas? |

WT1: If no one gets it before I get home this evening I will look it up. There are enough "holes" to ID it.

PoStat - what 2 states do you collect? I have lots of duplicates of the things you collect if you want to email me off-board. |

WT1: Sorry for delay. What I believe you have is a HPE Perfin "H160". HPE=Elliot Addressing Machine Company, Boston, MA. "E" rated perfin. |

WT1: Thanks for the link. It is nice to know the "behind the scenes" reasoning for perfin patterns ID once and a while. I put in a nice note to the city of Watertown for the article.
