Apart from stamps, I have a fondness for comics. Well next month I will have the opportunity to meet the great Stan Lee so I was contemplating which comic book I should get him to sign but the more I thought about it, the more I realized I wanted him to sign my stamps. Are there any faux pas to getting stamps autographed?

These are the stamps I am thinking of getting autographed (not a scan of my own; this picture was taken off the internet)

To a stamp collector probably, but to a comic book collector I would say no. When you do meet him try and get a photo of both of you with the signed sheet in the picture, it wont be worth any thing with confirmation, cool I do it
Also for the max value just have him sign his name autographs with a TO JOE FROM XXXXX are less valuable than autographs with just the signature

They're your stamps, so do as you please. I would guess the autograph would be more valuable on a comic book though. But if you're doing it for pleasure, then go for it.

Somewhere I have an autographed booklet of the 1993 Space Fantasy stamps..Stephen Hickman the artist lives in my little town and one day when I went to the post office he was there signing cover..i had some covers signed and was so impressed I purchased a booklet of the stamps and had him autograph it...James Gurney the artist for the 1997 Dinosaurs stamps lives in the next town Rhinebeck...just happened to catch him autographing also..two post offices 7 miles apart..i don't see myself ever using the space fantasy stamps and saving the cover...theres no right or wrong..if you want Stan Lees autograph on a sheet of stamps for a momento..its something unique !

Go for it!
attemp to have it signed in a clear spot, perhaps the selvedge
where his signature can be clearly seen.

Then ring up Sheldon from "The Big Bang Theory"
he would be in raptures :)

I think it's a fantastic idea and would make a great addition to your/a collection! I agree with Irishjack on both counts - just the signature and photo proof. I read an article not too long ago where a person had an autographed photo of Michael Jackson whom he met in person but could not prove the signature as authentic.

I love that show and the episode with Stan Lee was classic Sheldon!

Since there really isn't much room in the selvedge for an autograph, have you thought about having him sign a cover? There are a couple of covers on eBay that might work. I just read that Stan Lee's favorite character that he created was Spider Man.
