Just couldn't help myself. Even though I still have literally tons of stamps to sort, I went ahead and bought another batch... I figured 'what's a measly EUR 19 + EUR 8,60 for a few winter evenings of sorting'...

http://www.ebay.de/itm/ws/eBayISAPI...:BCA:NL:1120

As usual I'm not expecting anything particularly valuable, but the fun of browsing through the lot is worth the money alone...

I am reminded of Rod's quip from http://goscf.com/t/12550.

Well stamps are cheaper than tranquilizers...probably less side effects also ..most of the stamp collectors I come in contact with look like they are dressed by the Salvation Army..priorities, priorities !!

Phil, I love your humor. And in this case I would also commend you for an accurate statement. If doctors were to prescribe stamp collecting to reduce stress, tranquilizer sales would plumet. Pharmaceutical companies would not be happy, though.

Thinking about it,
the payoff with soaking,
is when you take out the stamps from the books
in the stamp press, and there they are, flat and handsome.
Just like new.
It makes it all worth it.

It works with me with small soaking lots, regular like.

Hear hear Rod! I totally agree. I love it when my material is finally dried out and I can sort it all. Sometimes, stamps soak better than I expect and
from time to time also worse than I expect. Still, there's nothing like finally putting those soaked, pressed, and dried stamps into the collection and
filling in a few holes!

I went an took a look at the Ebay auction link posted by smauggie.
WOW, how naeve I am not to think there is Ebay in other countries!

I would love to find a nice big lot of at least a couple pounds of OFF paper, world wide. I search Ebay now and then (in English) but not such good luck. Any suggestions?

Ah, it's raining outside, horray!
Supposed to get 68 degrees (20) later this week.

I usually buy worldwide kiloware from a couple eBay sellers in the United Kingdom. They do collect stamps there for charities and chucrches more than we do I think.

But off paper, hmmm?

Well, search ebay using terms such as 'off paper'.
Try 'worldwide' and also 'world'.
Try different languages like German and French so 'welt' or 'weltweit' and 'monde' .
French off paper on eBay is wither (i have seen both) 'ohne papier' or 'sans papier'

Here is a Netherlands seller with 1 kilogram (2.2 lbs) of off paper world starting at 1 Euro (1.5 dollars approx.)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-Kilo-MIX-...em4cfe3e7d29
The word VRAC is French for BULK

If you are nt sure what all the foreign language is just copy it and paste it into Google Translate (Language) or some other online translater.

Remember to click the Worldwide button on eBay. The US eBay comes set to just search the US. Kind of limiting I think at times.

Oh, German for 'off paper' is 'aus papier'.

Sometimes different languages use a different way of saying the same thing too. We say on paper, the French say on fragments (of paper).

Sometimes just searching for different words like lot, assortment, mix, mixture, selection, etc will be useful.

The German eBay has a kiloware category that I haven't seen on the U.S. site.

SueStamps, for off-paper, look for the phrases "ohne Papier" or "papierfrei".

For example, how about a garbage bag full of off-paper!

wow, I like the garbage bag full.
But I don't know how I would bid on it....
I mean.... I can convert the Euros to dollars,
the bid is for 69,00 I think that is about $91.00
but I can't figure out if there is a buy it now, or
how much shipping costs or if they are willing to ship to the USA or the description...

I was just going through my Scott catalogs, and I may have tens of thousands of stamps, but there are so many countries that I don't even have one stamp of, like Ethiopia, and a bunch of others I can't recall right now.

I am thinking that all the stamps that I have won, even though some were from Europe, and USA... all seem to sell the same sort of countries. I hope that makes sense, LOL.

Anyway, thanks so much for the Ebay link to the both of you.
I am going to try and figure it out and also use other key words, maybe start a new thread on helping me find some auctions.
Thank you thank you!

The garbage bag is a Buy It Now (Sofort-Kaufen). The seller has 4 of the 4kg bags available for sale.

The description roughly translates as:

"Here you get 4kg paperless definitive series stamps Germany, sometimes new, sometimes older. The scan is only one example. usually there are small values."

The shipping is listed as 35 Euro to the U.S., but there's a chance actual shipping would be less. If you're seriously interested, I recommend you drop the seller a line and see what actual shipping to your location would be. Google Translate does a serviceable job of translating.

If you wanted to go to another eBay site (notice the dot de or dot fr instead of dot com) and you don't have to (just stay on dot com and click the Worldwide option in the Location choices on the left of the screen (after you search for something but then it will stay). Then you know they have agreed to ship worldwide as if they hadn't they wouldn't come up in a search.

Going to other sites shows you other stuff but it is not always shipped to the US or elsewhere except their own country or region.

But I don't know how I would bid on it....

When an auction is in a certain currency (whether it is US dollars (USD) or Euros (EUR) or Great Britain Pounds (GBP) or whatever, then you bid in that currency and pay in that currency.

You pay PayPal your own currency (USD for you) and they, for a fee of 2.5% of the total amount, exchange it into whatever currency you need to pay in, This is automatically done by PayPal (or your credit card at a higher rate usually) if you decide to call over to who knows where and talk to them and buy their stuff over the phone. Or the Post Office (charges even more for a money order), or a bank.

If the seller's largest market is in the US (or they decide they want to try to sell there) then and only then would they decide to list on dot com in USD and sell in USD and let the buyers (you) pay in their own currency (USD).

It's like they are giving you a 2.5% discount. They have to deal with the exchange into their own currency when they transfer their money from their USD account in PayPal to their own bank, not you.

But, if they have a large enough market in Europe (they think) then they list on a site there in Euros and get paid in Euros and take that to their bank.

People who really want to sell to the English speaking world will have all or part of their listing in English.

I just found it fun to go searching and hunting and learn a few words here and there in a foreign language and see what kind of stuff is out there. Not everybody knows English and I don't know too much of other languages but the universal language is money.

I see something I like, I use a translator online to figure out if it is what I think it is for sure, then I bid, I win (hopefully), and I pay.

Through all of that I don't really have to do any figuring at all. PayPal does it all for me. I get an invoice saying I owe this much and when I pay it it tells me what I am paying, at that exact time, in my own currency.

Just imagine that each state in the US had their own currency. So if you wanted to buy an item from California, for example, you would have to pay in California golden Pesos. They won't take Idahoan potato dollites or Nova Scotian Fishes or anything else. Same thing. Why should you limit you purchases to your own state when there are good things to buy from somewhere else?

For shipping from elsewhere in the world, shipping is mostly arranged in three tiers. Local, between close countries and international or further away. You would be the further away one, if they have that. Wherever your eBay says 'Seller Ships Worldwide' then they would have something similar on their eBay.

eBay is arranged to be similar enough (but just a little different) all around the world. They've spent a lot of money making it look good and be easy to use.

But, even if you decide to stay home you can improve your searching and finding of stuff to bid on. Use different words or combinations of words. If you had something to list and sell what would you call it and why? Try that.

A lot of times foreign stuff is right there, but because each eBay uses slightly different category names worldwide (they should be all the same I think) you won't find stuff in your regular category or by your regular words. That's all.

I was hoping I didn't overdo it as I do sometimes.

Good luck on your searching.
