"Another" 2lb Of Stamps

Hi all

Well last time I was on this forum last year I was working on a 1 lb lot of world stamps I got off the Aus Ebay and there was some great finds in there I will have to post pics later when I can get time.

the sad thing was that half the lot was Aus and NZ stamps not many US stamps in there so I was looking yesterday on the US ebay and found this nice 2 lb lot of world stamps. Knowing that these stamps are coming from the US I will be looking forward to getting some more nice US and other country stamps.

postage was a bit of a cost to get them here in Aus from the US but I think it will be worth it the guy said there are 12,000+ stamps in this lot but I think there will be alot more then that if it really is 2 lb.

Well as soon as I get this lot I will let you all know if it was a great find or not so great but thats the fun of buying in bulk you have no idea what you could find in the box.

Yay I got a nice shock when the dog raced out the front and started barking like crazy. as I went out the postage guy was leaving in his van and next to the front door was a big package

so I got the camera out to take pics and I got the first look pics right here and its a nice size pack and I checked if it was 2lb it was 899grams that's about 1.95 lb (close to the 2lb).

Sorry if the pics slow down the net if it gets too much let me know and I will re size them

At this point it was looking like the guy put them into more packages to make it look bigger.


But after looking more I found that where stuck together in lots of 1 lb

I will post more pics as I go with this lot - but I will only be doing 1 lb at first seeings I'm still learning alot about stamps and it would take way too long for me to sort both lots before cataloguing

Ah, it came from Canada, actually...

Some people think that it's fun to continually hit themselves in the toe with a hammer . . . then there are those that buy 2 lbs of used stamps!

Interesting. It looks to me that what you actually have here includes (at least partly) remnant dealer stock, but that's not a bad thing.

BTW, that cross on the Swiss stamp is not the Red Cross but the outline of the white cross that is the emblem of Switzerland; the Swiss flag is a white cross on a red background.

The Red Cross itself was started by a Swiss gentleman by the name of Henri Durant, who decided to use as the organization's emblem the reverse of his country's flag -- a red cross on a white background. And so it has remained, ever since 1864.

The bulk lots are fun to go through in the beginning...but remember I told you so...they take up space quickly..take your goodies and find a way to dispose of the rest !!

Your diamond shape stamp is from Tannu Tuva formily part of China, area of ethnic Mongols, seized by the Soviets during WW2.
I also like your triangle from Nicarugua.

philb: Its alot of fun going through the large packs and I like all stamps thats why I go for world packs to get stamps from all over. I am planing to make some packs up after im dont sorting. May take a bit of time to get there but im sure I wil have alot for trading too

warrehouse: Thanks for the info on that stamp. That really good info too with the history of the Soviets seizing it back in WW2.

Here are some more pics of 3 stamps that have the plate numer on the back also some nice looking cancels and I started looking for them white cross and found alot of them I think it would be I nice lot to collect

#1 I could not find the info in my S&G cattaluges but its MNH and the plate number on the back.

I don't believe that those are plate numbers on your Spanish stamps; what they are, I think, are inventory numbers/serial numbers so that the printer's output could be counted. You will see similar numbers on the backs of Brazilian stamps as well.

Very nice assortment. Gussyboy collects Red Cross & Nursing stamps topically. Someone else collects odd shaped stamps. Glad you are learning more about stamps & the history behind them.

WpgLwr: yea I've never seen it before (but I am learning still) and was wondering what they were.

stamperdude: thanks, Yea I was looking for all the red cross stamps for gussyboy1.

The big thing I'm looking for are nice looking cancels I'm not that big on MNH I like the history of the stamp and cancels give the date on when that were posted. I do still go for MNH but if I had the choice of a MNH or a great looking cancel I would go for the cancel.

The one thing I'm finding with this is my cat will not leave the stamps alone so I can only do a bit everyday then the stamps I've sorted have to go in the envelope's and I start again the next day with more and so on. That also mean that it will take a bit longer to do the stamps but its OK for me I'm having a ball with this lot.
