So I really don't have room to complain since I'm not a financial supporter of the website (yet) but I've just got to say: I don't know what you did with the old photo optimizer but I sure wish you'd bring it back. The new one is kicking my *** Edited by Staff | The bad word filter is in place for a reason. Bypassing the filter and making the intended word obvious anyway is completely unacceptable. *** (and for that reason I don't like it).
Seriously, the new optimizer is way not user friendly.
thanks,
dave

The old one no longer worked with the new SSL certificate installed. Here is the background info on the demise of the old Image Optimizer: http://goscf.com/t/54535

I never used the old one. I tried the new one for the first time today and wasn't able to get it work after 15s+ of waiting, so I just went back to resizing my pics the old fashioned way. But SCF was hiccupping for me during that time, so I'll try the new Image Optimizer again next time.

I used the new Image Optimizer the other day. It took me a few minutes to figure it out, and initially thought I was in the wrong place because it mentioned to make sure there was no space around the Coin. It also says to make sure your final image is less than 300kb, but the limit for Stamps is 200kb(unless it was also increased?). Other than that, I thought it was helpful to work on more than one image at a time.

Still a little confusing, but you should be able to work it out.

I employ the new Optimiser every day, it is absolutely fabulous.
Well done Stamp Dad.

If you need explanation on how to use, post back.

OK
Say you want to place an image in a thread
select "reply to topic"
select "New free Optimiser"
click to open file (wherever your images reside)
select say 5 stamp images

You will then see the image size in RED (say 450Kb)
go to "image quality" select your random ...say change to 75
the RED remains but the image size will be decreased
OK select 55 "image quality" suddenly the image size is GREEN meaning OK to go ahead

EITHER select "apply to all" or do individually (up to you)

select "display save"

Your images will now have a green "down arrow"

Hit those and the optimised image is saved to your folder.

All that takes just seconds after a few tries.

Good Luck

I save images as tiff files, and reduce and covert to jpeg in my image editor for any online display, takes a few seconds, lot less than uploading, downloading and uploading.

In my file this is a 4800dpi tiff, a 20% jpeg of that image uploads fine.

@Daveinva47: Bottom line; when Admin updated the site to add (member-requested) SSL security/login, it "broke" the old image optimizer. The old one won't coexist on HTTPS; the new one will.

I tried it for the first time, and it works well.

A couple of points you should be aware - the optimized image goes to your browser-specified download folder, and as Partime said, it tells you it must by 300kb or less, but SCF still actually requires 200kb or less. So you must make sure you reach that target by reducing the image quality.

At first the new one can be hard to use because it is slightly different than the old one. However, after reading its instructions carefully a few times with some trial and error, it got easier to use.

This thread does not fill me with any confidence concerning the new image process.

A blast from the passed 2/8/2010 "Australian KGV Stamps explained."

I saw you working hard to get that scan posted -- thanks for persevering. It was worth the efforts; very handsome set.

Bobby left my 1st attempt of posting an image up in the support area as the worst ever attempt. Never to be beaten.
