I have a blank Nebraska town and type album. I also have hundreds, maybe thousands (still doing an inventory) of Nebraska precancel stamps. Some of the stamps are fairly new, but a lot are from the 30's and 40's, some even older. So far none of my precancel stamps are found in the town/type album from pss. I understand that Dr.? created the town/type listings being used for the album in 1961. So why are there so many precancels stamps prior to 1961 not in the album?
An example would be the first listing, Adams 729. Does that mean that there are no other precancels other than scott 729?
any insight/input is appriciated. thank you in advance!

You're using the wrong documentation. The Adams 729 refers to Adams, NE using PRECANCEL TYPE 729 (it has nothing to do with the Scott Catalog numbers). In this case, Adams, NE is only known to have a Type 729 style of precancel.

Keep in mind there could be a whole series of stamps (or various denominations of stamps within a given series) that may contain a Type 729 precancel. I believe the intention of the album is to provide one single space for displaying a stamp showing a DIFFERENT precancel type known for each city or town. If you were to expand the album to provide spaces for every precancel type known for each city or town, and then expand it to cover every denomination stamp in which that same precancel were used, the album would become huge and unmanageable.

You probably should download this PSS Style Chart that will help you identify the various Town and Type precancels known for any given town:

THANK YOU! for the information. I will check this out and get the correct style chart. I had ask a couple of other stamp collectors and got some information that I knew was wrong.
