No value comments from me, but WOW! Love it.

BUT ...

Why is it postmarked in Lakehurst? (Using German stamps?)
I'm confused about the cancel date of Aug 33?

Hi, I have seen forgeries of these that look pretty good, I would suggest you get it certified before considering it's value. I mean no insult but if this is genuine, you have something of fairly high value, somewhere around $800 -$1000 (my guess).

As background, the Graf Zeppelin made a round trip flight to South America August 19th - August 29th, 1933. On September 2 it made another round trip flight to South America and returned to Germany on September 12th, 1933. It made 2 more flights to SA, and did not fly to the Chicago expo until October 1933. The stamps you have on this cover were not released until September 25th, 1933. It might help if we could see the back of the cover.

I am not saying this is not genuine, but if it were mine, I would get an expert opinion on this.
regards, yakboomer.

For clarification, this is not mine. Someone has this one as an inheritance and wants to sell this to me. As Partime pointed out that the date of the postmark seems very weird with August 33.

You might want to try contacting the Zeppelin Study Group - http://www.ezep.de/zsg/zsg.html

I'm sure someone associated with that organization can be helpful.

That is a good idea, but they can be somewhat slow in answering. Good luck!

Would it be an EKU if the CDS's date pans out then?

ILS - I am not sure about the first use of the overprinted stamps for Chicago, I will have to do some research and follow up on this. It would be nice to see the back of the cover.

One big problem with this cover, is the Graf Zeppelin Round the World Flight stamp. That flight occurred in 1929 and I have never seen it on subsequent flights, certainly not in 1933. I do not claim to be an expert, but I would sure get this checked by one.

It's a fake. That stamp wasn't available on that date, there should't be Lakehurst cancels on a German stamp, and the commemorative cancels are wrong for that flight.

It makes no sense at all to me. I agree that it is a fake so I would place the value at $0 and recommend that you decline the offer to buy it.
