I thought this was a very nice cover.

I believe it is a lotto cover.(Correction, not a lotto cover - thanks to tonymacg, I found out this is a Registered money letter.) The two stamps on the back are perfins but, do not show up well under the scan.

Interesting to say the least.

Not a Lotto cover, but very evocative - of kinder, gentler days.

The seal stamps on the back are inscribed 'Cash enclosed', and are tied with personal seals. The letter was registered, and sent to the Japan Railway Civil Engineering Association. Perhaps it contained someone's membership fees. The large red cancellation on the back is a receipt stamp from the Accounts Department of the Association, dated 17 June 1985. The manuscript '44.000' nearby might be the amount in Yen enclosed.

Now who, these days, would wilfully announce that a registered letter contained over $400 in cash?

Thanks for pointing that out tonymacg.

I would rather find out I erroneously labelled something wrong, so that I can change it, than to go on not knowing.

In fact, I'll rename this thread "Japanese Registered Money Letter"

Thanks again for the clarification.

Thanks Prahanaoki

Hankyu Department store cancel - great. So, this cancel would qualify as a Japanese type of retail postal outlet cancellation?

Well, I've looked and it seems like it is a regular post office with full postal function rather than like a Canadian RPO.
But the post office is definitely inside of the Hankyu department store building in Osaka according to the Japanese Post official website.

Here are a couple of items I bought at a stamp show just yesterday.

I am not sure if they are for money transferals or if they are a form of lotto card??
Any information is appreciated. Thanks a lot.

These are 2003 New Year Lottery cards. I think they've been discussed here previously.

Thanks for that tonymacg

The boxes on the cards throw me and I am not certain if any particular card is either a money or a lotto one. I am not going to collect these per se, but, some do crop up every now and then.

Some questions:

Are Japanese lottery cards a type of postal card? Is that a postage imprint in the upper left corner? And is that a sheep knitting?

Thanks, Robert

Trainwreck, it is a stamp imprint and it is a sheep, not sure what it is doing, but, it could be knitting.

Because I do not know Japanese, I can't tell what type of card they are either.

Thanks to forums such as this one, I can get some good ideas.
