KirkS's Civil War threads got me thinking about specific stamps I'd love for my collection. So it got me wondering, what are our top 'wants' for our collections. You know those gems that just grab you and you'd love to be able to add.
I'm not talking about your faves that are in your albums already, but those ones that maybe you haven't found the right example or are just out of reach. Let's say you get 3 picks. What would they be?
I'll start.

Since I collect mainly US and Canada, sure I'd love US #s 1 & 2, and a Canada #1 beaver - that's a given. But the ones that really make my heart race (really? ) are...

US #77 Abe Lincoln's first stamp appearance.

Canada #20

A third choice is tough. Could be any of the US 1869 pictorals, or some of the early Confederates.
I'll say a used US#298, just to finish off my Pan-American series. Then I can start on a mint set.

So? What do you dream about at night? Umm, stamp wise, I mean.

Hmmm I'd really like to stumble upon 2c large queen on laid happily stuck to some old page but doubt thats a possibility (actually any laid paper canadian issues would be a bonus. But Canada 1 thru 13 excluding #4 in just about any condition would make my decade. I suppose if I quit buying lots of this and that for awhile I could probably afford it. Discipline is so hard in collecting.

I have been lucky enough to get Canada #1, 4a and 4d. I was able to get those from one man who decided to sell his stamp colleced many years ago.

I have never looked back from that transaction. Others from #1 to #13 are harder for me to grasp and the price range is somewhat prohibitive. Having said that, I am still looking and waiting

A Harrison & Sons sheet of Coronation blackprints in photogravure, given away in the Penrose Annual of 1954, a Graphic Arts Review.

Scarce !

Hmmmm

I would have to think on that for a while Nitrolures <G>.

Like you, if I was lucky enough to come across some of these with 'minor' faults, I would have to try for them.

I've been lucky indeed to have treasures that I never thought would be in my US collection. My wife says that there is just the high hanging fruit left now. I'll never possess any of the Pan-Am inverts or an inverted Jenny, but I'm within sight of completing the Columbians. I guess my "bucket list" would have to include the 90 cent stamp from the 1869 pictorial issues (US #122) and the 5 cent red Washington error stamp (US #467).

For me, I suppose a US Scott #2, and a few more of the expensive Washington Franklins of 1908-1923.

Although I collect worldwide, being from Canada, I have a strong desire to complete my Canadian collection. Any of the Canadian Scott 1-20 (except 15) would be perfect

P.S. Preferably in mint never hinged condition

This is a really interesting topic. My top "wants" vary with what ever is the hot "topic" I'm working on. I have a lot of wants that catalogue 25 cents or less, and lots more under $5. Sure there are many rare items that I would like to have, but living on social security puts that catagory out of reach, but not necessarily out of mind.
