Hi Luciano

You might want to try and pick the brains of those in the TRSG (Third Reich Study Group) at

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/THIRD_REICH_STAMPS/

They are devoted to that particular era of stamps and postal history only.

I can't quite read the Feldpost number in the Briefstempel. If it's the same as the FPN in the sender's address (#32384), here's what info I have.

Feldpost number 32384:

1 Sep 1939 - 1 Jan 1940 -- HQ 222d Construction Battalion
23 Sep 1943 - 6 Oct 1944 -- HQ 222d Pioneer Battalion
6 Oct 1944 -- not used
20 Oct 1944 - end of WWII -- 3d Company, 46th Pioneer Battalion

Since the cancel date falls in a gap, you might have a forgery.

Or my source data could be incomplete. This info is from Kannapin's Die deutsche Feldpostübersicht 1939-1945, which is difficult to wade through for the English-speaker. I'll also check my copy of Project Himmelblau when I get back home to confirm. It's a lot more manageable.

While my stamp collecting knowledge is limited my knowledge of militaria is rather extensive. Especially in the realm of WWI and WWII. Sadly forgeries are rampant in the realm of feldposts with many of them coming out of the former Russian states and boy o boy are they good ones. Personally I would need a much higher res scan to determine this one and if I can post it I will post a picture of all known forged cancel stamps (to date). When I get home tonight I will see if I can look at this picture a bit more clearly. My PC here at work is a government clunker so the monitor stinks and the thing is as slow as xmas. If you could get a better scan of both sides I will surely look it over for you. Either Email them or PM me a link and I will check them out.

This is a field postcard from the Hunt Battalion at Bitcsh Training Camp. It fits in with my hunting theme and was part of my exhibition this year.

That is a nice one. I love old handwriting. It's amazing that in just 60 - 100 years we went from sending letters with handwriting that was almost a work of art in it's own to (OMG/LOL/Huh) and a total lack of understanding of the skills required for handwriting. This past year the school board in my parish has toyed with the notion of removing handwriting from the curriculum to insert a typing or "keyboarding" class. It seems we are in a sad state of affairs where all our future offspring will be born with thumbs more offset then they are to text more efficiently.

Chief,

Have to agree with you on this matter. I think I am the only person I know who insists on proper capitalization, spelling, grammar and punctuation in both emails and texts.
