Was looking through some old Aussie stamp I've been trying to peddle on ebay, with no success, and started examining the old King Georges.
After checking watermarks (9 and 203) I examined them close to try to figure out dies etc.
On this #28 I notice a break in the right numeral two where the thin diagonal stroke meets the foot of the number.

My question for all you King George V experts is, is this a common flaw? or should I start calling Sothebys?

James, you are heading down a very slippery slope with the KGV's. Once you start flyspecking for plate marks & flaws, you will become an addict like the rest

Thanks for the warning stallzer. I'm just trying to get someones 'two pence worth' of advice. Anyway, as addictions go, could be worse.

Hi Stallzer and jamesw

The excitement and thrill of the chase has lead me down that path.
I even just purchased a copy of The Australian Commonwealth's Specialist Catalogue King George V.
Now I have to work it out.
One variety I found is listed as a penny halfpenny green, but mine is a penny half penny brown. So I have lot of reading to do.
It is so exciting when you find a variety.
The book costs $99.00 but is well worth the cost
Regards
Horamakhet

To me the KGV's are fun to fly speck, although I only have 20-30 I think it is the best issue to go through looking for plate flaws and such.

The Australian Commonwealth Specialist Catalogue does not seem to have your '2'as a flyspeck example but can see your example as a normal part of printing and it is not highlighted.

Hope it is helpful. John.

It looks like 12A/R18 to me
Left frame thinner than normal from 8 to13mm above lower frame with 2
small notches near upper end of thin section (behind Roo)

Outside left frame line 1.25mm long,it's upper end below upper frame.
