I have some old Chicago Rock island & Pacificrailroad Bonds I had researched by US Bank Corporate Trust Services a couple of years ago. One of the bonds has a cusip number written on it. Here is a copy of their letter.

Also a couple of years ago Moodys cusip search was offering a free cusip number search so I called them over the phone and gave them the cusip number written on the bond. They said the number belonged to a payable Rock Island Railroad gold bond.

Whirlpool Corp. will not answer my letters about payment of these bonds. Attorneys tell me to sue Whirlpool for payment can cost as much as $20,000 a month.

A little help please, anyone ?

I do not see a copy of the letter. Could you repost it and a scan of the bonds? What kind of information or help are you wanting? We are stamp collectors here primarily and not investors or attorneys.

BTW, Welcome!

You might want to take a look at the "uploading images" tutorial area if it is not attaching properly. Is the file too large or maybe a type not supported on this site? If it is in your previously uploaded images file, you could select that instead of upload from your computer again.

First scan the document at no more than 600 dpi. That ought to leave you with an image which can then be reduced to the required less than 99mg to upload. Secondly, the autonaming convention on your scan contains either blanks or dashes or parenthesis? you need something like img1234 Hope this helps.

Wow! I've never seen a bond like that. Good luck on getting it negotiated. Did Whirlpool Inc take over or assume Chicago Pacific Corporation?

Here's a suggestion: If you don't get anywhere contacting the company directly, try your state's AG, Banking or Securities Commission and see if they would intervene for you. If the company hears from a state agency that has jurisdiction over them, you may be more likely to get a prompt response.

This may or may not relate to your bond, but this was recently offered on an auction site. It gives a brief history of the rise and fall of the company to date (note bold and underlined portion):

Quote:
683. Railroad. Certificate. Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railway Co. Cert #A3817. Incorporated in 1880 in the states of Illinois and Iowa. Issued to Mrs. Henrietta Lemken in 1915 for 40 shares. Signed by S. Holaday, Vice President, and (illegible) Smith, Assistant Treasurer. Vignette is of locomotive "America", l-r. Orange border and underprinting. Cancelled by punched holes. Four stock transfer tax stamps on back, 20-cents each. Printed by ABN of New York, 8 X 12, horizontal. Successor to the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad Company which had been formed in 1866 by the consolidation of the Chicago and Rock Island and the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific railroads. The latter had emerged in 1847 as an outcome of a bankruptcy dating back to 1833. A third and final bankruptcy in 1975 ended in complete liquidation in 1980 with benefit going to speculator Henry Crown. The shell of the former railroading concern remains as the Chicago-Pacific Corporation which has had control over the Hoover Company. CHI-603-S-40 ic. Slight foxing, folded. Very fine. Est. $100-200

The Rock Island RailRoad had never been liquidated. As sited in Maytag v. Navistar , decided June 27, 2000. Of course Maytag merged with Whirlpool Corp. headquartered in Benton Harbor Michigan. I have learned from speaking with attorneys not to speculate, and keep within the scope of Federal Rules of Evidence. Here is a copy of that decision. (4 pages)

OK. I want to reply to the liquidation question. Type into your key word search Maytag v Navistar , you should get hits from the 7th district court proving the Rock Island RR was never liqidated . This was settled in 2000. It's a pretty long read. When I get my scanner on the other computer straightened out i'll send a copy, my wireless isn't reducing any thing below 1.2 MB's got to figure that also.
