50 years of Talbot house - 1v

During the Great War, Poperinge was part of unoccupied Belgium. Away from the turmoil of battle in the Ypres Salient, the town became the nerve centre of the British sector. In the heart of this bustling town, the Army chaplains Neville Talbot and Philip "Tubby" Clayton opened a club.

The oil lamp became a symbol of the light of fellowship that soldiers visiting Talbot House had experienced in the darkness of I world War. From December 1915 onwards, and for more than three years, the House provided rest and recreation to all soldiers coming in, regardless of their rank. (wiki and another fonts)

On October 31, 1997 Finland issued a three-value set intended for use in mailing Christmas greetings. The 2.80 markka value of this set (Facit #1412), shown here, depicts a candle chandelier.

From wikipedia, "Chandeliers evolved from candelabra and were invented during the medieval period...The earliest candle chandeliers were used by the wealthy; this type of chandelier could be moved to different rooms. From the 15th century, more complex forms of chandeliers , based on ring or crown designs, became popular decorative features in homes of nobility, clergy and merchants."

Here's the Eternal Flame on the JFK Commemorative issued on May 29, 1964. It is the first stamp of which I have a memory. I was too young to be collecting, but my older brother was into the hobby. Our dad worked at the post office and he brought him a full sheet of 50 of these. I think even six months later people were still in a bit of shock.
