A famous actress ... and an even more famous stamp. The "Wohlfahrtsmarke Audrey Hepburn" Germany / 2001 The story behind it - the German Post wanted to issue a series of actor stamps in 2001. Everything was ready to go, but then Hepburn's relatives forbid to show her mother with a cigarette - because she had died from lung cancer. The only problem was - some sheets of those stamps were already sent out to the post minstry ... and someone just used a few stamps without knowing, they should have been destroyed. So a German collector found the first one in 2004 in a plastic bag full of stamps, it was proved original from the postal authorities, an he sold it for 53.000 Euros in the end. You maybe should check your 2001 German stamps for this treasure You can find the whole story in English when you google "glen stephens" and "hepburn" - sorry, but it's not allowed to post a link here. |
