Quote: Five-banded Civet Is that the one that they (them people) make coffee out of the droppings from? That Hungarian Badger earlier reminded me of my childhood animal stories for some reason. |

Puzzler - It's your thread, so it's your call, but I would suggest that maybe we should create a separate thread for horned and hoofed mammals like impalas, deer, etc., as they aren't exactly "small" animals. What do you think? Here is an image of a stamp depicting Alpine Marmots ( Marmota marmota), a species of marmot found in mountainous areas of central and southern Europe, designed by Czech artist Josef Balaz, engraved by Bedrich Housa, and issued by Czechoslovakia on September 25, 1959 as one of a set of five stamps commemorating the 10th anniversary of Tatra National Park, Scott No. 933, SG No. 1112. Note that the Latin name of this species is misspelled on the stamp. - nethryk PS @Puzzler - Good call! |

Dollman's Tree Mouse ( Prionomys batesi), is a nocturnal and arboreal mouse from Central Africa which feeds on ants. Few individuals have been captured for study, and much about this animal's behavior is still unknown. Here is an image of a stamp depicting a Dollman's Tree Mouse, designed by P. Martial, printed by photogravure (Delrieu), and issued by Central African Republic on September 15, 1966, Scott No. 75, Y&T No. 77. - nethryk |

The Japanese river otter ( Lutra lutra whiteleyi) is a variety of otter formerly widespread in Japan, but it is now classified as "critically endangered," and may in fact already be extinct. This stamp was printed by combined engraving and lithogravure, and issued by Japan on June 25, 1974, Scott No. 1171. - nethryk |
