Stallzer, I wish I had an answer.
I have seen similar antics go on in the different auction house.
I guess it is a matter if the people wanted used more than they did mint? Anyone's guess really.
I know that I was lucky to get my MNH one for $50.00!

Stallzer I think it's the nice slogan cancel that make it more desirable and increase the bids |

That slogan cancel for that time use is very common as I have no less then 10-15 covers with the same slogan. That's why I titled it "Things that make you scratch your head, we'll never know why an item that has a CV of &50 sells for $41.50, but one with a $100.00 CV sells for $30.00. |

I agree, make no sense. There were a few more bids on the used version. But not enough to convince me that the demand was higher. eBay is all about timing and who is looking at that time. If I had been watching the MNH version I would have bid it up more than what it went for. |

Perhaps it was the allure of Free Shipping.
But let's not forget that some collectors focus solely on mint stamps while some only collect used.
There may also be some added desireability in having a Century of Progress issue stamp with a Century of Progress cancellation.
If you look at the valuation by grade, the used VF C18 had a 2011 CV of $55 while the CV of the F MNH was $42.50 so both sold at about 70- to 75% of CV. |

Quote: eBay is all about timing and who is looking at that time. That certainly has an impact! In this case, the used stamp is VF but has uncommonly large margins and is really clean/bright (could be an image manipulation). I paid less for my MNH c18 than the final price of this used copy, but I find this one really appealing ... |

Absolutely it is a nice copy. I paid $40 for my MNH c-18 with excellent centering and the other stamp in the topic has good centering also. Being as the auction were within 6 minutes of each other and from the same seller I would have thought with a $50.00 catalog value difference the MNH stamp would have done better than $30.00 as it is a nice piece. |

Back to my timing quote. There may have just been more "used" collectors looking at that time versus "mnh" collectors.
I agree that the MNH version should have certainly gone higher and would have if I would have been looking at the time these were going down. Back to timing.
That being said I am in need of a decent mnh baby zepp at a decent price point. Anyone know where I can get my hands on one? |

I'm speculating (somewhat backed up by the results of my own eBay sales) that mint-- even NH-- is slipping in the market, while used is getting stronger.
I'm also speculating that perhaps the underlying reason is that we see less and less mail, and thus fewer and fewer (current) used stamps... so the "idea" of a stamp that was actually USED to carry mail holds more appeal now, than when used stamps were everywhere. Just a theory.
