I still have not been a buyer on ebay.

There are just too many good buys elsewhere.

Always Happy Stamping. KGV.

I totally agree with you but I lack the understanding of the science of buying on ebay.

I am so use to buying from my bricks and mortar auctions there is no need, time or funds left to learn the ebay way for me as yet.

From my perspective as a world wide collector,
I really have no need of ebay, I have plenty to keep
me busy, but I'm sure for the more specific collector
and specialist, the topical collector, ebay would be a Godsend,
bringing vendors and purchasers together.

i am starting to wonder about selling on ebay...i used to think it was supplementing my purchasing by selling one and two dollar items..but the work involved to sell a hundred or two hundred such itemss...is it really worth it ? I think CJD is correct..for selling eBay is for the bigger dealer..not the hobbyist !

Until recently did both.
Selling is proving to be a bust lately.

A week or so back, there was a thread about an eBay strategy of putting in low bids and forgetting about them. I had an eBay window open at the time, and put in a bid for a dollar-something, and promptly forgot about it.

Last night, I had an email from eBay that I had won, for the opening 99 cents. It took me a second to remember that I even had an eBay auction pending.

So, for me, the strategy works 100% of the time!

Hi Philb you ask is selling on ebay worth it. One thing you have to consider is the listing fees and insertion fee for each add. This is very costly. In order to have success you need to cover $100 worth of fees every two weeks. You need to consider postage costs for bigger items. You would need to have at least 50+ items in your store and ad daily. You need enough stock and have a good eye for what is popular. You need to be able to buy stock cheaper in auctions and try to undersell the other ebay sellers but still make profit. I'm finding the experience very frustrating. I have a few buyers but it just covers the fees. Then there is a store fee to. When I get enough posts I rather try and sell on this site and other country auctions. If you have GB then send the stamps to an auction place in GB. or Canadian send to an auction place in Canada etc. They take a small percentage of the profit, but then ebay do to. I had my store up a month and had $200 of listing fees from ebay already. And they charge extra for additional listing tools. I didn't use them, just blank adds
see my store as an example http://stores.shop.ebay.com/stampsandcovers888 it is not up to full speed yet but I really wonder myself is it worth it? Good question

hello duncan, you can try here after 50 posts...but you have to have a good memory and also remind your bidders at times..there are no prompts or e mails from SCF..also,this is a very good group...but it is small...so their stamp budgets would limit sales...all in all I enjoy auctioning off items here !!

That is hard to do.

eBay runs so smoothly and is easy to use. That took a lot of work and tweaking and thinking over the years.

www.delcampe.com (or .net) is from Europe and is constantly updating and changing and costs about 5-1/2 % to sell, not to list.

www.bidstart.com is the most like eBay as to looks and how it runs, costs very little to list and in final value fees.

www.wensy.com is free. Free.

www.stamps2go.com is a buy it now site.

These all have their ups and downs but eBay has the most people looking at it and that is worth the extra cost involved. And they know it.

Facebook has been (I hear) having to opportunitu to change into a selling site as well as what is is now.

Google Plus is also doing this.

Amazon and yahoo and others are running their own game.

There are artsy crafty sites that have stamps on them also but mostly as a side line.

probably each country has it's own selling site in it's own language. www.tradera.com in Sweden is eBay.

Nowadays dealers tend to have their own online store. There are plenty of companies which provide this service, charge $20-30 per month of usage with no other fees and provide a fully functional shopping cart which operates smoothly with paypal and other payment methods.

This way dealers use ebay to attract buyers and after a sale is made directing them through better deals and such to their own private non-ebay store. In this way dealers enjoy the exposure ebay gives and avoid as much as they can the ridiculous fees they charge.
