My question is will eBay use uncleared funds to pay their own listing and sell charges that come from the seller? Or will they charge a default payment to the seller because funds are not cleared for payment?

What happens to lot of kiloware that cost $200 all up and is mailed by sea mail that takes 3 months for delivery. So is eBay going to hold back payment for 13 plus weeks?

So if we reach "Top Rated Sellers" status does the withholding of funds stop happening?

For some answers to your questions

Withdrawing proceeds of sale from PayPal before you receive feedback from buyer seems to trigger alarm bells at eBay.

The forum above details many ways not to attract adverse and unwelcome attention from eBay and PayPal.

Great to have, did not know existed, suspected though as eBay forums are limited to what you can talk about at times.

John, as Far as I know in my limited knowing of the eBay world, the holding payments, which has been going on here in Canada and US for at least a year now, holds your money until feedback is given or until 30 days '21 Days from the date the payment was received into your Account' have passed.

They are always tweaking the rules to take care of loop holes people find and the best way is to just know the PayPal rules and keep up to date on their updates and upgrades.

If you have that Top Rated Seller rating congratulations! but do try to Not base your business plan on it. Base that on the lowest common denominator and if things are better then whoopee but if things are bad they are not so bad.

PayPal rules are to be found on the main PayPal page you use (not sure if the same as me here) https://www.paypal.com (Ha, just noticed that Canada has their own link which I did not include, so Australia probably has their own link too).

Then scroll to bottom of page and choose the fine print link called Legal Agreements, (which you agree to when you join PayPal) at https://cms.paypal.com/ca/cgi-bin/m...cale.x=en_US which is the page I get in Canada (notice the /ca after the .com)

Ah, see the drop down menu at the top of this page to change your country.

edit updated hold days from PayPal user agreement info

Thanks Plateflaw! I find it hard to find this stuff!

eBay and pay pal can really smash a seller if they like.

It looks like things will change for the better for us in the long term.

By the end of the week we will have over 500 listings.
Next months bill for 2,000 listings, mailing cost plus sellers tax.
Now we will have to do the sums or we will get smashed.

$650 for listings.
Mailing costs?
Sellers tax?
Looks like we will have to put funds into pay pal maybe.

At first I thought this new rule would not hurt us. I was very wrong.

Thanks Puzzler your comment came through while I was posting.

We have been leaving all funds in pay pal for 2 months up until now.
Helping our children is more and more draining as they are doing more studies. The costs are unbelievable, we just have to put it together. At least the blessing is we can do it.

My poor collection. From collector to seller.

I just noticed your question. I got carried away by all the comments..
Ebay pays itself with your credit card that must be on file for you to sell. It has NO right to touch your Paypal account unless a complaint has been filed and you are judged (after investigation) at fault.
One piece of advice is not to ship to eastern European countries unless registered. This includes Turkey.
Mail just disappears and buyer complains..

Personally I've cut way back on my ebay sales because they've started with holding my payments for 21 days. They say it's because I'm not an consistent seller. I'd been selling for over a year and while it was only nickle and dime stuff, I was moving stamps and it was keeping my paypal account stocked, which went right back into buying more stamps for my collection. I noticed the change in their attitude toward me after they changed their rules this last spring.
So all they've managed to do is alienate me. I've emailed them but gotten no responses.
I know they're the big fish, but it's not worth it for me to stay in the pond (if that makes any sense).

I was doing well on Ebay, but I've stopped for precisely this reason.

What really annoys me about Ebay is that they are constantly changing the rules - and always to the detriment of sellers.

It's not the same marketplace it was even 18 months ago.

Can I point out that on Delcampe.com the seller makes his/her own rules?

This European-run site is the exact opposite of the control freak model represented by Ebay.

It has everything going for it, such as free listings (both auction and fixed price) and free images (as many as you like, no quality reduction) for every item, while products are easily found through Google.

Check it out!

Is Bidstart better than Ebay in these regards or just another animal?

No other site in the world can reach 90 million buyers...
(maybe more now).Sure they have rules but if you had seen or lived some of the horrors I have over the years with some sellers and buyers... They are trying to make it safe for you to buy... 6 months ago I purchased a vacuum cleaner (Dyson). After paying, 2 weeks passed and nothing... checked Ebay again and found out the seller had some negatives added of late and did NOT respond to my emails.. Files a complaint and was reimbursed by Paypal... Are you sure to be reimbursed if you don't get the merchandise on those other sites???
Not so sure..

BidStart is cheaper to sell on, but the sellthrough rate is MUCH lower. If I have something I HAVE to sell, it goes on eBay. If I don't care how soon it sells, it goes on BidStart.
