I would very much appreciate if anyone could give me information of the three postmarks.

The 2nd one also on e bay a few days ago. The seller indicated "Kagri posta Subesi" possibly doubtful?Kagri Posta Subesi (Paper mail post) literal translation. |

perf12 is ahead of me here!
I had just found the Karghi negative postmark in Coles and Walker and was going to suggest this.

Seller is a turkish guy in Germany. He sells very nice material - at prices wildly above what it is worth! |

Thank you all for your help. I admit, I am the (sucker) who bought it on ebay at the spur of the moment. I am starting to collect and was informed it was a rare and important item. I guess you have to pay to learn.
Red face and lighter pocket, but hopefully wiser. |

Ditch the red face, you are not a sucker, (you are honest though...a big tick there) So you made a bad purchase, this will leave you in excellent state for the future, and wary of those whom sell dreams. Not only in stamps, but life itself.
My early days, I sat down at auction, chatting with the fella alongside, I told him I was bidding on lot xxx (Cinderellas) He retorted, "You do know they are cut outs from a magazine? "
Enjoy your journey, don't let this affect your enthusiasm.
PS: "Rare" written in any stamp offer, should immediately raise a red flag.

Hi avischwartz - welcome to the forum! I will echo Rod's sentiments. Don't feel bad or beat yourself up. We've all overpaid for items. Comes with the territory. And you have a nice item. You'll eventually laugh about it, and hopefully it will get made up when you find some gems at a bargain. It all evens out in the long run... The comment that you have 'to pay to learn' is simply not true. Learning is free, and should be. The only (significant!) cost is time!! We actually (speaking personally, as well as collectively for the forum) despise sellers who overcharge & make wild claims about their material. It does not do our hobby any service. You should check out the search feature on the forum for answers to likely many of your questions. I'll suggest you start with our small thread on Turkey stamps. (!) Link is here: http://goscf.com/t/50933&SearchTerm...rkey,steiner(Just light bedtime reading!) Only one question - are you in Israel or New Jersey?? |

Good question.
I live in Jerusalem, Israel (please, people, this is not to cause a political storm) and my brother lives in Edison, New Jersey. When I buy from outside, it is cheaper to ship to NJ and then I bring the items back with me when I visit family. I had a senior moment when I registered to the forum and stuck NJ instead of Israel. I do not seem to be able to reenter the profile to change it. Just another wonderful hiccup in life.
Is there a reference I can read more about this particular item and what the actual worth is?

Hi Avi - sounds like a familiar story! I'm in Istanbul, but originally Trenton. Knew I'd never heard of Jerusalem, NJ before?!
There are numerous variations of that card. Isfila catalog has 8-10 pages of them. I'd need to see a picture of the whole thing - and then you would still need to distinguish among colors & sizes. One of the other folks will have to chime in on the postmark - negative cancels are nice & command premiums, but not sure of any definitive reference on value.
There has been lots of discussion on the board of ottoman postal stationery & postmarks - use the search function liberally! |

That helps.
Isfila lists several that it could be:
AN 14; 16; 18; 19; 21; 23; 25.
I can easily eliminate AN 21, AN 23, & AN 25. (Those are all 'pale rose') Yours appears - on my monitor - to be either red; carmine; or deep rose.
(My catalog is old & lists values in TL - I'm converting to $ at the app. exchange rate from when cat was published)
Mint / Used Values:
14: $23 / $33 16: $20 / $23 18: $333 / $500 19: $20 / $26
The big difference with AN 18 is the paper; all others are listed as 'bone colored cardboard' whereas AN 18 is listed as 'bone colored paperlike thin cardboard'. My guess is you can tell from holding it immediately if you have that one! (Good luck!)
Note this info is just for mint/used postal cards - negative cancel is not factored into it at all... |

Coles & Walker list both these two negative postmarks as "20" in terms of scarcity, i.e. between RR and RRR (between "very rare" and "extremely rare to unique") although this may just reflect the small number known to the authors.
It would be interesting to see how the much newer Isfila postmark catalogue describes them. |

Hi guys, Stepped out for a while and just came back. Now I am really confused. Are these two items with the postmarks rare and a"find", or only worth $30? |
