This is of the train depot in Canton, SD Jan. 29, 1907 as it burns. It has been rebuilt and is now a museum.

This topic has been dormant too long!

Here are a couple cards I picked up as counterparts to a stock certificate in my collection from the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad. I'll post all of them here. These feature the famous hanging trestle, a signature landmark along the scenic route.

Three more train views, well one train, and two spur tracks leading to mills.
There is nothing on this first card to tell us where this train is headed, other than a Willard, New Mexico postmark.
The second card is the mill at Northwestern, a town in Mendocino county CA and two set of tracks.
The third card is the mill at Bulwinkle, Humboldt county situated on Little River. This card was mailed from Trinidad a week before the Bulwinkle post office opened.

That last one looks a lot like a funicular railway, where a descending car counterbalances the one going up. Any more info on this one?

As long as we're on the subject of incline railways, here are two more. The Weehawken wagon elevator is really a massive funicular railway just like Angel's Flight (which, btw, has been rebuilt in a slightly different location and was still operating until recently -- https://angelsflight.org/).

Here's another funicular railway. This one is on a real glossy photo postcars mailed from Santiago, Chile to Portchester, NY on April 1, 1949. I love the nice clarity and detail. Looks like there are booze ads all the way up the hill.

Okay, one more incline railway and I'll move on. This one is in Marseilles, France and looks like it was also used to move freight.
