IBFS,

Very well said. A close competitor to being the most beautiful set during the 20th Century would be the National parks issue. Heck, I love all of the 20th Century engraved stamps. All of them.

Hi Steverman, and welcome to this forum. A very good website on these stamps is http://stampmankeith.com . It shows a set of four books ( so far ) on the stamps in this series.

Thank you Perf, Jkelley and Peter. Those double impressions are super cool and will have to check on dealers stocks up here. I had no idea about this issue as I haven't collected United States, however, I just might start collecting these myself!

Hey all... just an update... the exhibit was just a starter exhibit, so it's still being developed. Had a nice sampling of FDC but seeing the stamps upclose, I can see why this is a popular series to collect. Exhibitor received a large silver.

Well, now, there's still more collateral material to be had for this series. Here are the publicity photos sent by the USPOD to newspapers and philatelic publications, as well as to the FDC makers of the period, giving everyone a chance to see what was coming from the USPOD. Here are a couple of examples.

Each of these would have been accompanied by a short, rather terse letter, such as the one shown here:

Another area you can try to find are the post cards announcing the issuance of the stamps. These were catalogued by Dr. Cary Binder. The APRL has copies of this in their stacks. Here's an example of the post card:

Then, if you really, really want to look for a needle in a haystack, try finding a top deck card for each of the issues. Here's the only one I've found so far, the one for France:

Nice to see more activity on this thread. I love the O/C precancels. There are about 20,000 different known considering all the 13 countries. The Burr Nebraska at the front of this thread are fakes/frauds using a rubber stamp that never was near a post office - not considered a legitimate precancels. These from Gazelle California were made within the last 20 years with a device in the Gazelle PO, probably no longer there and under current PO rules not usable. It is still considered a legitimate precancel. Probably under 1% of the O/C precancels were used on non-philatelic mailings. Still fun to collect and getting more popular/pricy. I collect mine on photocopies of the Scotts National album page.
