I commented a while back over the number of high-value Columbians that seemed to be popping up for sale on eBay, and questioned the authenticity of all of them. Today I spotted this item for auction:

These were not used to print stamps, they were used for printing other things. Doubtful that they would make a quality fake stamp; much more likely that other modern technologies would be used to make convincing fakes.

These were type blocks used by Scott to prepare the Scott catalogues in the past. I recall that Scott offered them for sale some years ago. My brother-in-law woked for Amos Press at the time, and obtained a few for me.

AKN564 is absolutely correct. These "print blocks" were used to print Scott Catalogues and are newsprint-line screen print capable. (appx 66 dpi line screen). It's the same old story "caveat emptor."

No one would ever mistake something printed by one of these blocks as a real stamp. They're likely not even the same dimensions as the actual stamp.

Not only that, but the prints would be missing the little scalloped edges that go around the sides of every stamp.

Thanks for the insight. The seller does mention that the size of the print would be slightly larger than the real stamp
