Other than digging through the Scott catalog, is there a comprehensive reference for US tagged/un-tagged stamps?

Also, does anyone knows of a reliable vendor for tagged/un-tagged stamps?

Thanks for the help.

I would like to know if there was a reference that is up to date. There is a USSS study committee but not active based upon feedback. I would like to help create a photographic record since tagging is something I want to study more.

Many dealers sell them and for a number of issues there is nothing unique to require anyone special. It is when you get to issues that have multiple tagging types and paper combinations.

Nothing unique, except that if the stamps are sold as tagged, they should be -- and vice versa. My experience in this regard has been mixed. Hence, if someone has largely had success in obtaining tagged/un-tagged varieties from specific dealers, I am interested in getting their names/contact information.

Tagging is still the "undiscovered area" as far as my experience is. One of the folks that come to mind is Alfred "Tagging" Boerger, who wrote quite some basic articles about tagging.
Some good articles about tagging are available in "The Plate Number", an excellent newsletter sent out by Steven Esrati and available on the PNC3 website, http://PNC3.org . The newsletters are not ( yet ) searchable.
The PNC3 journal "Coil Line" has some articles on tagging on plate number coils. Also available on the PNC3 website, and the journal is searchable.

Before his death a few years ago, Victor Bove was a good source for tagging varieties. Another I have used is eBay seller tbrstamps. He specializes in modern definitives, but then most issues that have multiple tagging varieties (except "tagging omitted" errors) are definitives. That said, I have seen him offering commemorative varieties on occasion. In addition, he frequently offers complete "tagging sets" for an issue. In his listings for these, he usually includes a detailed description of the different varieties. When I started collecting tagging varieties, I often would find his eBay listings a useful adjunct to the Scott catalogue listings.
I generally try to keep abreast of tagging varieties by checking the Additions, Deletions & Number Changes page in the Introduction to the Scott US Specialized Catalogue. I only purchase a new Scott every 4 or 5 years, so I photocopy this page from the public library's copy in other years. Newly discovered tagging varieties invariably show up on this page.

Gene Paquette also used to be another good source for tagging varieties, but alas....

Be aware that many so-called untagged error stamps still have some trace of tagging - to be a true error they must be missing all the tagging just like a color missing error must be missing all of the color. Some look ok to the naked eye, but under a magnifier small tagging specs can be seen when a SWUV tagging light is applied.

Esrati's material is searchable for what was published in USSS's "The Specialist". You can search all his articles. I also have a hardcopy of one of his latest versions. I do have a copy of Gene Paquette's price list.
