Update I found my shipping policies are creating new policies on their own all the time. The policy somehow set itself off "Worldwide" postage! So many bidders were blocked without my knowledge. I will have to keep an eye on this because as soon as I fixed it all the bidders came in again. I will be complaining to eBay about this tomorrow. I'd recommend to other sellers to periodically check shipping policies are correct. For some reason I have six policies I only need 2.

As an eBay buyer, I did slow down just due to the holidays. I buy regular US material that most anyone could sell (nothing obscure) and when I do searches I see way so many items and most are lower quality material (heavily cancelled, missing perfs). Net, there is a lot of garbage to wade through and often overpriced in my opinion (fixed price or high starting bids). However, the choices for what I collect still are much better than most any stamp show.

From a buyer prospective would you not stick to a handful of sellers that you know and trust and forget everything else listed due to so many items? Unless your searching for a specific stamp. I too have tried to wade through pages and pages on eBay it gets to tiring just to much up. Easier to just buy from a few regular sellers you know and trust. And some sellers have over 2000 items on and that gets to tiring to look through everything they have. A lot of the over priced stuff keeps getting relisted and never sells but seller doesn't give up with the highest price he hopes for.

Bidders get very frustrated with eBay greed.
Revolving ads that take forever to load with products unrelated to anything your looking at, and they're only there to make a fast buck for eBay.
Ads that freeze screens until they slowly load.
Bidders lose out on items because of these ads, get frustrated and exit out of eBay.
Sellers LOSE MONEY and bidders LOSE ITEMS.

Sure eBay wants to maximize their profits but NOT by screwing their customers!

Timm,
Are the advertisers not eBay's customers too? eBay uses a 'cost-per click' pricing model but I do not know what percentage advertising dollars comprises of their total revenue stream. I would assume that it is substantial.

I am a top rated stamps / postal history power seller and I have noticed this week a huge drop in bidders. It seems to be really bad probably the worst selling for December on eBay since I have been selling. In fact this last few months sales are considerably down compared to the same time last year. Maybe there is to much competition? I've got nice old stamps on covers up some at 99 cents starts and yet not many people seem to be looking Is anyone else noticing the same with their eBay sales? I have over 220 followers but they don't seem to actively be checking. Everybody off shopping for Xmas? I'd be interested to hear from sellers and buyers on this. Buyers are you still buying a lot from eBay? Sellers how are you going with selling compared to last year?

My personal feelings and situation.

I bought a large order of stamps from a seller in Australia. I received the order and it reeked of mildew as well as many stamps being stuck to the backing.

I was told I was too fussy, and due to Australia's humid hot climate, this is normal and to be expected.

I won't mention names, but he is giving Australia a very bad reputation.

I have since never bought anything out of Australia and basically no longer collect it.

I know others that have had the same feelings about this seller and done the same thing.

Also, Australia's postage costs are also becoming very expensive just like in Canada.

I don't collect covers, but the risk of musty smells is also very high.

As I said, personal situation for me, but I am not alone.

dutchman1948 that seller has no clue if he sent stamps like that. The climate here is humid. If you don't protect your stamps they will get mildew & foxing and be ruined. Basically you need to protect your stamps here with the crystal packs you get in food packets. That stops foxing and other problems. I never had any complaints on stuff I send out see my feedback. Also stamps should be packed better so they don't stick together. Some sellers have no idea on preventing foxing / how to pack well and its sad they give a bad reputation.

Postage is high and always goes up each year now, esp if you are using registered mail but I can send from Australia world wide at only $2.95 airmail. I mentioned this before in other threads.

As an eBay buyer of non-U.S. material, I have seen a noticeable drop in the offering of stamps I could add to my collection. For the month of December, I've searched a little more, and bought less. There is too much common, second-rate material that is overpriced. There are way too many sellers asking $1.00 or $2.00 for a single, .25 catalog value stamp, for which they charge $1.50 to $3.00 shipping. Sometimes this "stuff" is re-listed for months on end.

Then there are periods when some interesting material is offered at reasonable prices. Unfortunately, these times are getting fewer and more infrequent.

As a buyer, one is motivated to look for other venues.

Would you mind sharing your eBay name? I noticed there are a lot of high volume sellers that do not make any mention of their business.

For example, there is a seller called maystamps but no clue on who they are from their sales description or in their store.

I am not a seller but will you all that I've suspended all purchases due to the Christmas season. I'll resume when the tax refund arrives. Meanwhile, this is the season of high heating costs and car insurance renewals.

As jkelley01938 has said, all of the cash outlays of December (don't forget the big quarterly payments to the IRS) make it a tough month for any other discretionary spending...for older Americans.

Maybe President Trump will improve things over there for all Americans, being the business man he is.

Happy new year stampers
