I am trying to figure out how to catalog this stamp. I looked in the T&T catalog, and while there are Los Angeles SCR local styles none of them (appear to me) match. If I ignore the SCR printing it simply looks like a style 71.

Thanks in advance for the help.

The "SRC-NOV 63" is a separate overprint applied by the Sears, Roebuck & Co.

Thanks for the information. But that does not address my question, which is how to catalog the stamp. Is it a bureau (i.e., 1049-71)? Is it a T&T (Los Angeles, 71)? Or a local T&T (there are Los Angeles L type SRC styles, but none that match)? Or is it nether, and if so, what?

The upshot to my question is where in either my bureau or T&T album would I put the stamp?

After some further searching, I believe that what I will need for this stamp is the "Printed Dated Control Type Precancel Catalog, (2004)". Which makes the answer to my question, "Neither".

Looks like I now have something to put on my Festivus list.

dkabq8, we have some precancel aces on this forum. It may take them a bit to respond to your question, but please hang in there - you will get an answer.
In the meantime, have you tried http://precancels.com ?

Peter

Yes, it is Bureau type 1049-71.

It was used by Sears, Roebuck & Co, which was required to add their Printed Dated Control mark. There are threads on this board describing the rules for these controls added privately to both Bureau and local precancels. For purposes of identifying the basic precancel type, the control mark should be ignored.

It one were collecting a town/type collection this would of course be one of the Bureau stamps in such a collection.
