While I would join with the pessimists about value, I would suggest that you check the 1960s/+ covers for tagging varieties, and check the more common names & addresses to see if anybody might care to whom the covers were addressed.

It's important to look at the SOLD listings not the active listings and see what people are actually paying. Anyone can list anything at any price... doesn't mean it will sell.

There is a market for nice-condition older un-cacheted FDCs as they are often snapped up by those who paint FDCs. The value of an FDC as I understand it is in the cachet. A nice hand-painted cachet will go for big bucks. A simple typography cachet perhaps not so much. Unless it is rare. As with everything if you are serious about them, there is a catalog you can beg/borrow/buy.
