WORLD Stamp SHOW NY 2016

Will you be there? If you plan on attending this once in a decade philatelic event, please drop by booth #851 and say hello . We (SoftPro /EzStamp)will be demonstrating all our software products and can answer any questions you have.
I personally will be hunting for those elusive items missing in my collections (that I can afford ). Would love to meet some of the folks on this forum. See you there. The last international show I did was Washington 2006 & it was a blast. NY Promises to be even better.

Why would they have this event in such a dangerous city? Toronto would have been a far better choice.

Nothing dangerous about NYC. Love the place.
I was at CAPEX 96 and it was a FLOP ! Toronto would not draw 10% of what NYC will draw.
Plus the food in NYC is way better !

Arranging this show requires setting up a host committee to prepare and promote a bid to host it, then working steadily toward funding, promotion and execution over a long time period. These committees typically are set up 13 to 20 years in advance. If Toronto doesn't have the show, it's because locals there haven't done the hard work to find the money and organize a bid. Care to step up now for 2026?

Maybe before you get all heated up about Toronto, Boston, NYC, etc. you should do a little research. International Shows such as NYC2016 are under the auspices of the International Federation of Philately. The right to hold an international (once every 10 years in a country) is granted by the FIP to a specific country. Toronto couldn't have held a show in 2016 since this was a year that the USA was entitled to hold one of the FIP shows. The other shows this year were in Taipei and in the People's Republic of China. In 2017 there will be one in Finland and in 2018 in Israel.

For many years, Canada hosted internationals also: Capex 1987 and Capex 1996 was two examples. However, it costs big bucks to host an international and no Canadian organization has come forward to stage another Capex. As a matter of fact, in 1997 the USA International which was held in San Francisco lost $480,000 and had to ask for money from the many guarantors as well as the USPS and other larger philatelic organizations.

It is hope that NYC 2016 will make a profit which will be given to Boston 2026 as seed money, as has happened with previous International, except for the previously mentioned 1997 international.
