Hi all,

Hey Rod, I was just looking at the scan again at lunch here & we must have both been too tired last night. I think it's 395 & there are two choices of which I can't tell which one it is, can you help please, if you have time. I used auto correct this time to bring it up a bit.
Thanks & later.....Jad

PS. Cancel that Rod :) showing my newbie side again, side face, TPO No. 6 S and W Railway Sideface Barred Numeral Type 2 a (7 mm) rated Common.:) I'm learning right ?

Quote from rod222 link above :-

395 - TPO No. 6 S and W Railway
TPO No. 6 S and W Railway [Travelling Post Office Railway Number 6, Southern and Western Railway], running between Brisbane and Wallangarra, commenced in January 1877 between Brisbane and Dalby and was gradually extended through Warwick and Stanthorpe to Wallangarra on the New South Wales border in 1887. The travelling post office opened in 1885

Large Chalon Barred Numeral Type 2 a (7 mm) is rated 4R
Sideface Barred Numeral Type 2 a (7 mm) is rated Common

Well done you !

Yes, indeed a 395 Jad... and a RPO to boot !

Jad,
The 2 types concern the stamp upon which it lies. The hammer remains the same.
Look at the stamp, if it is a "Chalon Head" the Pmk is 4R

If it is a Queen Victoria "Sideface" (yours) it is common

Google "Chalon Head" or search this forum, it will be immediately clear
the design you will become familiar with, over your time in stamp collecting.
There have been fiction books written about them.
See New Zealand Chalon heads as well

Cheers

I can do better

Queensland "Chalon Heads" named after Alfred Chalon the Portrait Painter

Partime,
emailed your "Pmk on fiscal" to the Webmaster, at the Queensland Postmarks link,
with your approval.
Jeremy was very interested.
Thank you.

PS: Being a fiscal stamp, it may be, the hole in the centre of the stamp, occurred when the receipt was placed on a spike, in the purchaser's office.

Only $1 difference,
but check burele band at rear, or, Wmk Crown Q

Shows scanner problems on websites, I would have imagined your stamp to be rose, not orange.

I rescanned, and it shows up a little better. The burele band is quite evident. (I do have to give her a good soaking sometime.)

I also scanned a friend of hers at the same time so that we can better see the color difference. I'll have to look for more of these postal fiscals.
